The Reserve Bank of Australia has today revealed the design the new $50 banknote, the next denomination to be issued from the Next Generation Banknote family.

The design of the polymer banknote continues to feature portraits of Aboriginal writer and inventor David Unaipon as well as the first female member of the Australian parliament, Edith Cowan.
The banknote is printed on Guardian® polymer substrate and includes similar security features to the already released $5 and $10 Next Generation banknotes that began circulating during the past two years, such as the clear top to bottom window containing a holographic foil – assumed to be KINEGRAM® ZERO.ZERO as was used in both the $5 and $10.
Similarly, SICPA’s optically variable SPARK® ink feature is reportedly also included, providing a rolling colour effect when the banknote is tilted.
As with all the Next Generation Banknotes, the new $50 includes representations of a native wattle plant and bird, namely the Acacia humifusa and a Black Swan.
The Reserve Bank has confirmed that the new $50 banknote is expected to begin circulating in October 2018.
