A public notice has been issued by the Bank of Papua New Guinea informing citizens that the K5 banknote has been resized as part of the banknote reform to differentiate between denominations.
Papua New Guinea’s Central Bank has issued a public notice advising its citizens that a new K5 banknote was issued into circulation on 3 January 2017.
Previously the K2 and K5 banknotes had dimensions of 140mm by 70mm, and the remaining K10, K20, K50 and K100 were sized 150mm by 70mm.
The bank is undergoing a banknote reform so that each banknote differs in its size, to help people differentiate between each denomination.
Resized K10 and K20 banknotes were issued in June last year as special commemorative notes marking the 40th anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s Independence as well as the XV Pacific Games held in the country.
The remaining resized K2, K50 and K100 banknotes will be issued during 2017 and 2018.
