The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic is continuing to celebrate 25 years of the country’s national currency with the introduction of two new coins.
The coins were issued by the Central Bank yesterday on the country’s National Currency Day to celebrate 25 years of independence and the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency.
The release of the new coins follows the issuance of the 2,000 som commemorative banknote issued last November.
5 Som coin
The design theme of the 5-som copper-nickel coin is based on important historical events related to the Kyrgyz statehood. It is 33mm in diameter and weighs 15.5 grams. Five thousand pieces have been produced and is available to collectors for a price of 500-som.
The 10 Som coin
The design theme of the silver 10-som coin celebrates the spiritual and cultural values of the Kyrgyz people. It is 38.6mm in diameter and weighs 28.28 grams. Just one thousand pieces have been produced and are being sold for 2,905-som each.
