A new high value Ariary 20,000 banknote will join the next banknote series to be issued by the Central Bank of Madagascar, expected later this year.
A communication was issued by the Central Bank confirming that a new banknote family will be issued this year consisting of the current Ariary 100, 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 denominations as well as the new Ariary 20,000 denomination banknote.
The Banknote series currently circulating in Madagascar was last issued during 2003 and 2004. With the many advances in anti-counterfeit security that has since become available, the time has come, says the Central Bank, to issue modern banknotes that include up-to-date security features.
The dimensions of the new banknote family will be reduced to comply with international standards, according to the Central Bank.
The theme of the new banknote family will focus on Madagascar’s natural resources, culture, tourism and economic qualities of its six provinces.
