20 million notes will be produced in total, which have a vertical design depicting a snowboarder and several venues in the Sochi Olympic Park, including the Fisht Olympic Stadium on the reverse of the note. The national flags of countries participating in the games form part of the design on the front of the note. There is also a multi-coloured holographic image of the Olympic torch flames.
The paper banknote has transparent polymer tape included to form a transparent window with an optically variable feature in the form of a snowflake. The note also contains a filigree watermark.
The Central Bank has also issued a 25 ruble coin made from copper-nickel, which features the Olympic torch. This is the fourth in a range of commemorative coins dedicated to the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Games on Sochi 2014. 20 million pieces of each coin will be released.
