The Central Bank of Hungary has released upgraded versions of the 2000 and 5000 banknotes into circulation including advanced security features.

Each note has a date of issue of the 15 November 2016, though they actually began circulating on 1 March 2017. The Central Bank, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, will withdraw the previously circulating versions of each denomination from circulation by 1 August 2017.

The 2000 Forint Banknote

The 2000 forint banknote is predominantly brown in colour and continues to use the banknote family’s size dimensions of 154mm by 70mm.

Its design includes illustrations of the 17th century Hungarian Prince Gábor Bethlen.

Security features of the upgraded banknote include a holographic foil stripe shown on the front of the note, and iridescent printing on the reverse. Other features include a colour changing optically variable ink feature, see through register feature, watermark, windowed security thread and raised tactile marks to aid those with visual impairments to identify the note’s denomination.

The 5000 Forint Banknote

The 5000 forint banknote is predominantly yellow and brown in colour and again has the same dimensions as the rest of the banknote family. It includes portraits of the Hungarian politician, theorist and writer, Count István Széchenyi. Similar to the 2000 note, the 5000 denomination includes a holographic foil stripe and iridescent printing, as well as an optically variable ink feature, tactile intaglio ink, see through register watermark and a security thread.
