The Louisenthal “Water” house note has won the Best Specimen Banknote award, presented by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA).
The “Water” specimen house note includes the optically variable RollingStar® LEAD security foil shown on the left of the adjacent image, as well as the RollingStar® Registered security thread, seen in the right hand note.
Louisenthal, a wholly owned subsidiary of Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) Currency Technology, is the first to win the Best Specimen Banknote award, which was newly created in 2017.
Votes for the Best Specimen Banknote, which are cast directly by Central Banks around the world, are ranked on innovation of design, technological development of security features, uniqueness, and aesthetic effect.
Speaking of the award, CEO of G&D Currency Technology, Dr. Wolfram Seidemann, said
“This award is particularly valuable because it is based solely on votes cast by central banks. Our note has been chosen by experts with a deep knowledge of the qualities that characterize a good banknote, from the design to the security architecture,”
As the name suggests, the design of the Water specimen banknote focuses on the sea, symbolised with various illustrations including a conch shell which is used repeatedly in the design, notably for the RollingStar® LEAD security foil and watermark. The specimen note’s primary colour is blue to represent the colour of the sea.
