The Central Bank of Uruguay has released new 20 and 50 peso banknotes with upgraded security features. The notes are part of the currently circulating F 2015 banknote family.
The new notes entered circulation on 1 February 2017.
The new banknotes include tactile markings on the short sides of the note, to aid those with visual impairments to identify the note’s denomination.
Other security features include:
- Perfect Registration – the “50” denomination is partially seen on each side of the note, but can be viewed in full when viewing the note infant of a light source.
- Watermark feature
- Latent image depicting the denomination “50” in different sizes.
The Banco Central Del Uruguay has issued an educational poster which is available on their website.
The release of the upgraded 50 and 20 peso banknotes follows the release of the 200 peso banknote issued in December 2016.
