The Central Bank of Solomon Islands has issued the new twenty dollar banknote, the third denomination in its latest family of banknotes.
Having been launched last Friday the 20 January, the new $20 banknote will begin circulating today.
The banknote, designed and printed by De La Rue, displays a bold purple colour and contains elements illustrating the island’s cultural heritage. Abstract geometric patterns representing the swirling movement of shoals of fish are shown on the front of the banknote, whilst illustrations of the island’s traditional panpipes and ceremonial island dancing are shown on the back of the note.
De La Rue has included its StarChrome® windowed security thread which changes colour from red to green when the banknote is tilted.
The Central Bank of Solomon Islands began issuing their latest banknote family in 2013 with the launch of the $50 banknote. The second denomination was the $100, launched in 2015.
