Samsung Pay, the mobile payments application from Samsung, has now been launched in the US.
Since Monday, those in the US with a compatible handset, namely Samsung’s Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge + and Galaxy Note5, have been able to make mobile payments in stores.
Samsung Pay not only works using Near Field Communication (NFC), like other mobile payment applications such as Apple Pay and Android Pay, but also uses magnetic strip technology, making the application instantly compatible with many payment terminals already in place within retail stores.
Samsung acquired LoopPay earlier this year, obtaining access to its technology called Magnetic Secure Transmission, allowing its devices to work with the magnetic stripe technology already available in retail stores.
Samsung Pay launched earlier this year in South Korea and has already seen a fast uptake.
