Poland’s central bank, Narodowy Bank Polski, has confirmed that it will be releasing a new high denomination 500 zloty banknote in February 2017.
The bank revealed an educational film of the new note via its Youtube channel on 6 June 2016.
Polish banknote denominations
Currently, there are five banknote denominations available in Poland consisting of the 20, 50, 100 and 200 zloty. The 500 zloty note will be a new high denomination, valued today at US $132.
According to the bank, the 500 zloty note is being provided in response to increasing demand for high denomination banknotes within the country. Such demand is placing pressure on the 200 zloty note (US $53) which is currently the highest denomination available in Poland. The new 500 zloty banknote will help to reduce the increasing costs of maintaining a strategic cash reserve, says the bank.
The note includes a windowed security thread on the front of the note, as well as an optically variable colour changing ink feature.
