The Bank of Israel has today begun issuing the new NIS 20 and NIS 100 banknotes, the last of the new Series C Israeli banknotes.
Israel began replacing the previous banknote series in September 2014 with the issue of the new NIS 50 banknote followed by the NIS 200 in December 2015. Today’s release of the new NIS 20 and NIS 100 completes the new Series C family.
The previous Series B banknote series has been circulating within the country for almost two decades, having been issued in 1999. The Bank of Israel says the new series introduces advanced standards of security, innovation and accessibility. All the new notes differ in size and colour but each denomination contains similar security features and tactile elements for the visually impaired.
Features of the new notes
The NIS 20 has a predominantly red colour scheme and is 129 by 71mm in size, whereas the NIS 100 has a predominantly yellow colour scheme and has dimensions of 143 by 71mm.
Both banknotes include portraits of prominent poets: Rachel Blobstein 1890-1931, is featured on the NIS 20 and Lea Goldberg is featured on the NIS 100.
Key security features of both banknotes include Kurz’s KINEGRAM VOLUME® foil stripe and SPARK® optically variable ink shown on the front of the note, and a windowed security thread on the reverse.
