The Central Bank of Brunei celebrates the Sultan’s 50-year reign with a commemorative polymer banknote and coin set, and issues the fifth series of circulation coins.
The country has celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, having been on the throne for fifty years. To mark the occasion the country’s Central Bank, the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, has issued a commemorative polymer banknote and set of coins.

The polymer banknote is printed on CCL Secure’s Guardian™ polymer substrate, and has a yellow colour scheme, signifying the royal colour.
The main security features of the note include:
- optically variable ink, reportedly SPARK® Live, which illustrates the numerals “$50” at the top right of the note’s obverse. The ink feature has a rolling bar effect, changing from green to gold as the banknote is tilted.
- A large see-through window containing a portrait image of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, illustrated using the Guardian CAMEO™ security ink feature.

The front of each coin features a portrait of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, whilst the back contains varying significant royal regalia used during the Coronation Ceremony.
Additionally, commemorative coins including coloured portraits of the Sultan have been issued.
