The Central Bank of Bolivia has issued the fourth denomination from its latest banknote series, the Bs 100, featuring modern security features.
The Central Bank of Bolivia is in the process of gradually issuing banknotes from its latest First Family of Tickets (PFB) of the Plurinational State [translated] banknote series. The issuance of the Bs 100 follows the Bs 10, 20 and 50 denominations that began circulating in the country during 2018 in April, July and October respectively.
The design of the banknote series celebrates the history, culture and nature of Bolivia. Imagery incorporated in the design of the Bs 100 includes portraits of Juana Azurduy de Padilla, a Bolivian guerrilla military leader who fought in the country’s War of Independence in 1809. Other portraits include Alejo Calatayud, a silversmith who led a rebellion in the country in 1730, and the Marshal Antonio José de Sucre who, in 1825, the second President of Bolivia and a military liberator of several countries.
The design shown on the reverse of the note features aspects of Bolivia’s flora and fauna, including the blue Paraba, a Bolivian bird that is characterised by its large size, up to 1m. It also includes the patujú plant, one of Bolivia’s national plants.
Key Security features
As with all the denominations of the new cotton-paper substrate banknote series, each denomination maintains the same colour scheme and size dimensions as their predecessors. The Bs 100 has a primarily red colour scheme and is 140mm by 7mm.
Key security features include a 4mm wide windowed colour changing security thread, reportedly Picture Thread™, shown on the front of the banknote which features the image of Juana Azurduy de Padilla and changes colour from red to gold as the banknote is tilted.
An image of the Blue Paraba bird is displayed using optically variable ink which changes from green to blue, reportedly SPARK® LiveTruspin, shown on the reverse.
