The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Philippines Central Bank, has started to issue its latest circulating coins from the New Generation Currency (NGC) Coin Series.
The new series comprises of six coin denominations consisting of the 10, 5 and 1-piso and the 25, 5 and 1-sentimo.
Micro-printed details have been included on the two highest coin denominations, through the use of laser engraving technology. All the coins are silver coloured and are made from nickel plated steel.
The designs seen on the coins include the new BSP logo, three national heroes (Apolinario Mabini in the 10-Piso, Andres Bonifacio in the 5-Piso and Jose Rizal in the 1-Piso), stylized stars and a sun in the 25-, 5- and 1-Sentimo, and endemic flora consistent with the design of the NGC Banknote Series that highlights Philippine fauna.
