The State Bank of Vietnam held a press conference on the 4 April 2016 to announce that a souvenir (commemorative) 100 dong banknote will become available during May this year, to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Banking Sector.
The new note uses a substrate developed by paper producer Arjowiggins Security called DIAMONE® COMPOSITE which uses a blend of synthetic and cotton fibres to increase its strength and subsequent durability. This is unlike the banknotes which are currently circulating in Vietnam which all use a polymer substrate. The note’s dimensions are 83mm by 163mm.
Though still to be confirmed, it appears that the design includes Rapid™ security thread from banknote paper maker and security feature developer Crane Currency.
It is also thought that the design uses De La Rue’s SPARK® Orbital colour shifting ink security feature, using ink supplied by Swiss security Ink manufacturer SICPA, to colour the number “65” on the front of the banknote.
