The Swiss National Bank has announced that it will release the new 200-franc note from its Ninth Banknote Series on 22 August 2018.
Switzerland’s central bank, the Swiss National Bank (SNB), made the announcement in a press release published yesterday (15 August 2018).
The Swiss 200-franc banknote is the fourth of six denominations to be issued from the latest series, following the 50-franc note in 2016, and the 20 and 10-franc banknotes issued during 2017.
The theme of the latest banknotes series is called “The many facets of Switzerland”, each denomination depicting a typically Swiss characteristic.
The design of the 200-franc banknote focuses on Switzerland’s scientific expertise. The colour scheme continues to be predominantly brown as per the currently circulating Eighth Series 200-franc banknote, but the new banknote is slightly smaller as are all the denominations of the new series, making them easier to handle according to the SNB.
Following the 200-franc banknote will be the 1,000-franc banknote, valued at around US $1,007 – one of the highest valued banknotes in the world – expected to be issued in March 2019.
