Sweden’s Central Bank, Sveriges Riksbank, has now launched their new series of 20-, 50- 200- and 1,000-krona banknotes, with the 100- and 500- krona banknotes and 1-, 2- and 5-krona coins to be issued next year in October.
The new banknotes were launched on the 1 October, 2015 by the bank, after working on the designs with commercial banks, retailers and cash-in-transit companies since 2008.
Sveriges Riksbank held a banknote design competition during 2011 and 2012, open to artists, designers and architects. The winning entry was called Kulturresan (Cultural Journey) provided by Göran Österlund, which formed the artistic base for the new banknote series. See the winning entry on Sveriges Riksbank’s website here.
The new banknotes contain up-to-date security features including:
- colour-shifting ink
- intaglio print
- watermarks
- see-through images
- UV features
- microtext
- security threads on the lower denominations, and
- Crane Currency’s Motion™ thread on the higher denominations.
See Sveriges Riksbank’s individual banknote security features here.
The previous banknote series will be accepted until the 30 June, 2016.
