Following the unveiling in November, the Central Bank of Nigeria has issued the new commemorative N100 banknote into circulation today.
The paper note was first revealed on Wednesday the 12th November by the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.
The new note not only includes advanced anti-counterfeit security features, but also includes designs to aid those with visual impairments to enable them to distinguish between the different banknote denominations.
The note contains authentication features such as window micro-optics – detailing the national flag and number 100, indicating both the note’s denominational value and the centenary period. SICPA’s SPARK feature is also included depicting a rolling manila bar which was the instrument of transaction during the slave trade era.
The note also includes a Quick Response Code (QRC), a digital communication feature that users can use to obtain information about the centenary.
The new note will circulate alongside the original N100 banknote.
