On 1 November 2016, the National Bank of Georgia issued an upgraded 100 lari banknote into circulation.
The colourful design continues to use traditional themes of the Georgian banknote series, but includes updated cultural and historical elements.

Security features include an optically variable ink feature, a striped foil, see through register and tactile lines on the short edge of the note to enable those with visual impairments to identify the denomination.

The 100 lari upgrade follows the upgraded 20 and 50 lari banknotes that entered circulation earlier this year, and which won the Regional Banknote of the Year 2016 award at the High Security Printing™ Europe conference in March.
