On the 1st April 2013 the Bank of Thailand released the new Series 16 20-Baht banknote into circulation. It replaces its previous version which has been in circulation since 2003.
In a press release issued by the Bank of Thailand, Mrs. Tongurai Limpiti (Deputy Governor) stated that the new design incorporates “new advanced counterfeit deterrent features to facilitate authentication by banknote sorting machines, vending machines and the general public, including visually impaired persons”.
Key security features include:
- A watermark of the present King
- A windowed security thread which uses colour-shift technology – when tilted, the thread changes from green to magenta
- A “See-Through” register – individual patterns printed on both the front and reverse of the note which, when held to the light, forms one complete pattern
- Tactile marks in the shape of flowers form the Braille symbol “2” for people with visual impairments.
