Following the release of the Clydesdale Bank polymer £5 banknote last week, the Bank of Scotland has today issued their own polymer version.
The new banknote will be available from Bank of Scotland branches from today, and will become more widely available across the country in due course.
The new note differs to the previous paper version, last issued in 2007, being slightly smaller in size and printed on De La Rue‘s Safeguard® polymer substrate. It’s design also differs slightly, but continues to use predominantly blue colours and includes illustrations of Sir Walter Scott and The Mound on the front, and a bridge theme on the back.
A commemorative limited edition version of the new banknote was last issued in October 2015 in aid of the BBC Children in Need charity.
The previous paper version will gradually be withdrawn from circulation.
Bank of Scotland also plans to replace its £10 banknote with a polymer version in 2017.
