The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued images of its upgraded 100 dirham banknote that will reportedly be issued this week, featuring Louisenthal’s Galaxy™ security thread.

The 100 dirham banknote of the current UAE series was first issued in 1982 but has since had several security feature upgrades.
In this latest version, the colour-shifting security thread on the front of the note has been replaced with Louisenthal’s Galaxy™ thread, one of its latest threads launched last year. When the banknote is tilted the colours and 3D patterns of the thread change from green to blue.
An optically variable ink feature has also been introduced, shown on the lower left of the front of the banknote. Like the thread, its colour changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.
Other changes, both to the front of the note, include a change to the silver metallic foil which is now an intaglio print feature, and the denomination “100” has been removed.
According to local reports, the UAE central bank posted an article in local newspaper Gulf News to advise the country’s citizens of the changes to the banknote.
