Norway’s Norges Bank has issued the next two denominations from its latest banknote series, the 50 and 500 krone banknotes, which include advanced security features in their design.
Norges Bank began issuing their latest banknotes series in May last year with the release of the 100 and 200 krone denominations.
With the theme of the banknote series being “The Sea”, the main motif of the new 50-krone note is taken from Utvær fyr in Sogn og Fjordane, whilst rescue boat RS 14 “Stavanger” is shown on the front of the 500-krone note.
The primary reason to release the new banknote series is to increase their security in circulation. Key anti-counterfeit security features include a SPARK® Live feature displayed on the front of the banknotes, as well as RAPID® security thread on the 500 denomination.
All the denominations of the new banknote series include tactile marks to assist those with visual impairments to identify each note’s denomination.
Norges Bank will complete the issuance of the five denomination banknote series with the release of the 1,000 krone which is expected in the fourth quarter of 2019.
