The Central Bank of Venezuela has begun circulating an upgraded version of its highest value banknote denomination, the 100,000 bolivar note.
According to the Central Bank of Venezuela press release, the new banknote has an upgraded watermark with “the face of the Liberator” (Simón Bolívar) and the Central Bank’s initials “BCV” shown in electrotype.
The upgraded note will co-circulate with the original version of the banknote that was first circulated in November 2017 during the country’s continuing cash crisis. The 100,000 bolivar banknote is currently worth around US $3.
The Central Bank says that the banknote upgrade is done to strengthen what the monetary cone (legal tender banknotes and coins within the country) and ensure the availability of genuine cash for the country’s citizens.
