The UK’s Royal Mint has won a contract to supply Argentina with 150 million peso coin blanks, assisting the country in producing their new coin series.
The announcement was made on social media by UK Chancellor Philip Hammond who visited Argentina earlier this month for trade talks – the first Cabinet minister to visit the country in sixteen years.
It is reported that the Royal Mint will work closely with the Argentinian mint, the Sociedad del Estado Casa de Moneda, to produce coins for the new series.
Speaking of the decision to work with the Royal Mint, a contract thought to be worth US $1.7 million, an official from the Argentinian mint reportedly advised that it was due to there being no manufacturers of coin blanks in the country.
