The Bank of Thailand has announced that it will issue a new family of commemorative banknotes into circulation on 20 September 2017.
A press release from the Bank of Thailand has confirmed that royal permission has been granted for the Central Bank to print and issue the commemorative banknotes in remembrance of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away last October.
The colour, size, security features and front-sided portrait of each of the denominations, consisting of the 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000-baht banknotes, continue to be the same as those currently circulating. However a new portrait of the late King as well as other elements reflecting stories from his lifetime will be displayed on the reverse of each denomination.
