The Narodowy Bank Polski, the Central Bank of Poland, has issued a new high denomination banknote into circulation, the 500 złoty banknote.
The new 500 note joins the currently circulating family of banknotes consisting of the 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 zloty.
According to a Central Bank press release, the new denomination will ensure the uninterrupted circulation of cash within the country due to a growing demand for high value banknotes within Poland. It also anticipates that the new note will help to reduce costs related to issuing currency.
Features of the 500 złoty banknote
The 500 złoty banknote has a blue, brown, burgundy and green colour scheme and includes a portrait of King John III Sobieski, continuing the banknote series theme of “Rulers of Poland”.
The note includes SICPA’s SPARK® optically variable ink feature in the shape of a soldier’s helmet shown on the front of the banknote.
A colour changing windowed security thread is also included on the front of the banknote, which changes colour from green to blue when the banknote is tilted.
Other general features include a watermark of the King’s portrait and the denomination numeral, and a see through feature visible when the note is held to a light source.
