The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia has confirmed that it will soon be introducing new denominations to its banknote series, the 200 and 2,000 denar.
The new notes will be circulated from 15 December 2016. At the same time, the central bank will begin to withdraw the currently circulating 5,000-denar banknote in order to rebalance the structure of banknotes that are in circulation.
According to reports, commercial banks will replace all 5,000 banknotes from 15 December 2016 until 28 February 2017, after which they can only be exchanged at the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia.
The new notes both include windowed security threads, watermarks, see through register features, latent images, intaglio printing, micro text, ultraviolet features and optically variable colour changing ink.
