The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has issued the $20, $50 and $100 banknote denominations into circulation.

The denominations, which began circulating on the 16 May 2016, complete the country’s seventh series of New Zealand banknotes, called Brighter Money, following the release of the $5 and $10 banknote denominations last October.

According to the Reserve Bank’s Head of Currency, Property and Security, Steve Gordon, around 300,000 of the new denominations have been dispatched to banks to meet their orders so far. However, it may take several weeks for the public to see the new notes, as the Reserve Bank will only distribute them when it receives orders from banks.

The Reserve Bank has confirmed that the new series 7 banknotes will circulate alongside the previous series 6 banknotes, which remain legal tender.

A public awareness campaign to educate the public about the New Zealand banknotes will run for the next four weeks, and includes this video from the Reserve Bank, available on YouTube.
