The Banco Central del Uruguay (BCU) has issued a new 2000-pesos cotton paper banknote containing a variety of updated security features.
The Series B banknote was issued on 27 April 2016 and will circulate alongside the current Series A denomination last issued on 1 October 2003.
The note is the second of the new Series B banknotes to be released, following the 500-pesos banknote issued in 2014.
The Central Bank has included a number of new security features within the note’s design, helping cash users to identify that the banknote is genuine.
Uruguay 2000 pesos banknote security features
- A holographic thread with the country’s coat of arms and text “BCU2000”
- A security strip including a map of Uruguay using optically variable ink. Tilting the note changes the feature’s colour from violet to brown.
- The notes up to the light the character image in the value of the ticket is seen letters and three numbers 2000
- Tactile marks consisting of five lines are placed on the short sides of the note, assisting those with visual impairments to identify the note’s denomination.
- A perfect register see-through feature which, when the note is held to the light, shows the denomination “2000”
