The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has today revealed new $20, $50 and $100 banknotes.
The notes complete the seventh series of banknotes called Brighter Money, joining the $5 and $10 notes which began circulating in October last year.
The new banknotes were presented at Government House by the Governor-General, Lt Gen the Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, helped by a New Zealand falcon – the kārearea – which is featured in the design of the $20 banknote.
Speaking at the unveiling, Sir Jerry said:
“Our banknotes and coins are the national emblems that are most frequently accessed by all our citizens. They reflect who and what we value and remember, our taonga; and they declare what we want to say about our place in the world. I am sure that New Zealanders will appreciate the quality and enhanced integrity of the new notes.”
All banknotes belonging to the new series incorporate the same four security features consisting of a holographic window, colour-changing bird, puzzle number and raised intaglio ink.
The Reserve Bank has confirmed that the new banknotes will begin circulating on the 16th May 2016, and will co-circulate alongside the current sixth banknote series.
