On Monday 16 February 2015 the Riksbank, the Central Bank of Sweden, introduced its new series of banknotes and coins.
It is the first series to be launched in 30 years, and the new designs include a new denomination 200 krona banknote and 2 krona coin – the 2 krona coin was last issued in 1971.
The new banknotes and coins are completely different in their appearance compared to the previous series, with the notes being smaller in size and containing new motifs. The notes contain optically variable security features, both in colour and movement. The coins are also smaller in size compared to their predecessors, weighing half the amount of the current coins.
The Riksbank will issue 4 of the new banknote series by the end of 2015, with the remaining 2 denominations in 2016.
