Fortress Paper Ltd has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Landqart AG, has entered into an agreement with a fourth customer to use its banknote substrate, Durasafe®.
Durasafe® is a banknote paper substrate designed to have increased durability and security compared with traditional cotton paper banknotes. It consists of a fully transparent central polymer layer that is enveloped with two cotton paper outer layers, known as a composite paper-polymer-paper banknote substrate. In addition to the increased durability, the combination of paper and polymer allows for a variety of security features to be included within the design of the Durasafe® banknote. Clear windows can be formed almost anywhere on the banknote thanks to its polymer core, whilst the paper outer layers enable the possibility of including a traditional watermark and security fibres in the cotton paper layers, and retain the well known tactility of banknote paper.
Durasafe® was developed by Landqart in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.
