Mobile network operator EE has developed a Glastonbury festival app which will include their “Cash on Tap” contactless payment service.
The telecommunications company has paired with Glastonbury organisers to produce the official Festival app which will also provide users with music line-ups, interactive maps and real-time festival updates.
Using cash at festivals such as Glastonbury, which drew crowds of 250,000 people in 2013, is a security risk to the public and businesses due to the vast quantities of cash which is taken on-site and either carried around by festival goers or stored by businesses such as bars and food stalls, presumably with limited security.
With the “Cash on Tap” app, users will be able to pay for drinks across 25 bars throughout the festival site and top up their balance throughout the weekend using the available 4G mobile network. Not only is this much less risky than carrying cash for members of the public, but it is also beneficial to businesses which won’t have users running out of cash prematurely.
The app by EE will be available to Android smartphone users. For details on how to use the “Cash on Tap” app click here.
